Watermelon Lemonade Slushy: The Ultimate Refreshing Summer Drink

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings 1x

Description

Refreshing Watermelon Lemonade Slushy: a sweet and tart blend of watermelon and lemon, perfectly icy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups cubed seedless watermelon, chilled
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 68 lemons)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cup ice cubes (more if needed for desired consistency)
  • Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)
  • Watermelon wedges, for garnish (optional)
  • Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make Simple Syrup (Optional): In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Cool completely.
  2. Prepare Watermelon: Choose a ripe watermelon. Cube it, removing any seeds. Chill for at least 1 hour.
  3. Juice Lemons: Roll lemons to release juice. Juice using a citrus juicer, removing any seeds. Strain juice (optional).
  4. Blend Slushy: In a high-powered blender, combine chilled watermelon, lemon juice, cooled simple syrup (or sugar), and ice cubes.
  5. Blend Until Smooth: Blend on high speed until smooth and slushy. Add water if too thick, or ice if too thin.
  6. Taste and Adjust: Adjust sweetness or tartness to your liking.
  7. Blend Again (If Needed): Blend again to incorporate any added ingredients.
  8. Serve and Garnish: Pour into glasses. Garnish with lemon slices, watermelon wedges, and/or mint sprigs. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a thicker slushy, use frozen watermelon.
  • Experiment with adding other fruits like strawberries or raspberries.
  • For an adult version, add a shot of vodka, rum, or tequila.
  • Substitute honey or agave for sugar.
  • A pinch of salt can enhance the sweetness.
  • For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or jalapeño slices.
  • Create layered slushies by blending different fruits separately.
  • Rim the glass with sugar or salt for added flavor and presentation.
  • Pour the slushy mixture into popsicle molds and freeze for a refreshing treat.
  • Too Watery: Add more ice.
  • Too Thick: Add more water or lemon juice.
  • Not Sweet Enough: Add more simple syrup or sugar.
  • Too Tart: Add more simple syrup or sugar, or a pinch of baking soda.
  • Grainy: Ensure sugar is fully dissolved; use simple syrup.
