  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Description

Yuenyeung is a popular Hong Kong drink that beautifully blends coffee and milk tea, offering a delightful mix of bitterness and sweetness. Enjoy it hot or cold, with optional garnishes like cocoa or cinnamon for added flavor. Perfect for coffee and tea enthusiasts!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee (preferably Hong Kong-style)
  • 1 cup Hong Kong-style milk tea (made with black tea and evaporated milk)
  • 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
  • Ice cubes (optional, for serving cold)
  • Optional garnish: a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Brew a strong cup of coffee using a dark roast for a rich flavor. You can use a coffee maker, French press, or espresso machine to brew about 1 cup of coffee.
  2. Set the brewed coffee aside to cool slightly; it should be hot but not boiling when mixed with the milk tea.
  3. Boil about 2 cups of water in a kettle.
  4. Add 2 tablespoons of black tea leaves (or 2-3 tea bags) to the boiling water and steep for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Strain the tea into a separate container to remove the leaves or remove the tea bags.
  6. Stir in 1/2 cup of evaporated milk and 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk (if desired) until fully dissolved.
  7. In a large mixing bowl or pitcher, combine the brewed coffee and prepared milk tea. Stir gently to mix.
  8. Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness with more sweetened condensed milk if desired.
  9. For a cold drink, add ice cubes to a glass and pour the Yuenyeung mixture over the ice. For a hot drink, pour the mixture into a mug.
  10. Garnish with a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon for both hot and cold versions.
  11. Serve immediately and enjoy the unique blend of flavors.
