Description
Yuenyeung is a popular Hong Kong drink that beautifully blends coffee and milk tea, offering a delightful mix of bitterness and sweetness. Enjoy it hot or cold, with optional garnishes like cocoa or cinnamon for added flavor. Perfect for coffee and tea enthusiasts!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee (preferably Hong Kong-style)
- 1 cup Hong Kong-style milk tea (made with black tea and evaporated milk)
- 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
- Ice cubes (optional, for serving cold)
- Optional garnish: a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon
Instructions
- Brew a strong cup of coffee using a dark roast for a rich flavor. You can use a coffee maker, French press, or espresso machine to brew about 1 cup of coffee.
- Set the brewed coffee aside to cool slightly; it should be hot but not boiling when mixed with the milk tea.
- Boil about 2 cups of water in a kettle.
- Add 2 tablespoons of black tea leaves (or 2-3 tea bags) to the boiling water and steep for 5-7 minutes.
- Strain the tea into a separate container to remove the leaves or remove the tea bags.
- Stir in 1/2 cup of evaporated milk and 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk (if desired) until fully dissolved.
- In a large mixing bowl or pitcher, combine the brewed coffee and prepared milk tea. Stir gently to mix.
- Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness with more sweetened condensed milk if desired.
- For a cold drink, add ice cubes to a glass and pour the Yuenyeung mixture over the ice. For a hot drink, pour the mixture into a mug.
- Garnish with a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon for both hot and cold versions.
- Serve immediately and enjoy the unique blend of flavors.
