Watermelon Infused Water: Refreshing Recipes & Benefits

  • Total Time: 120 minutes
  • Yield: 8 cups 1x

Description

Refreshing watermelon infused water with lemon, lime, cucumber, and mint. A delicious and healthy way to stay hydrated!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 medium seedless watermelon, cubed
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1012 fresh mint leaves
  • 810 fresh basil leaves (optional)
  • 8 cups of filtered water (or more, to taste)
  • Ice cubes, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Watermelon: Place cubed watermelon in a large pitcher (at least 2 quarts). Gently crush about half of the watermelon cubes with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon to release juice.
  2. Add the Citrus: Add thinly sliced lemon and lime to the pitcher. Gently press with the muddler to release their essential oils. (Peel lemons/limes if not organic).
  3. Incorporate the Cucumber: Add thinly sliced cucumber to the pitcher.
  4. Infuse with Herbs: Gently tear mint and basil leaves (if using) before adding them to the pitcher. Gently stir in.
  5. Add the Water: Pour filtered water into the pitcher, covering all the fruit and herbs. Gently stir to combine.
  6. Refrigerate: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight (4-8 hours optimal).
  7. Taste Test: After the initial infusion time, taste the water. If not flavorful enough, let it sit longer. If too strong, add more water.
  8. (Optional) Strain: Strain the water through a fine-mesh sieve before serving for a clearer water.
  9. Serve: Pour the infused water over ice cubes in a glass. Garnish with fresh fruit slices.
  10. Storage: Store leftover infused water in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Consume within the first 24 hours for the best taste.

Notes

  • Variations: Experiment with other fruits (berries, pineapple, mango), herbs (rosemary, thyme, lavender), or spices (ginger, jalapeño).
  • Sweetener: Add honey, agave, or stevia to taste, if desired.
  • Refilling: Refill the pitcher with fresh water 2-3 times before the fruit loses its flavor.
  • Important: Discard if you notice any signs of spoilage.
  • Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor.
  • Don’t over-muddle the fruit.
