Tropical Gin Sunrise: Recipe, Tips, and Variations

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A vibrant and refreshing cocktail with gin, pineapple, orange, and lime juices, grenadine, and bitters for a complex flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 oz Gin (London Dry recommended)
  • 4 oz Pineapple Juice (Freshly squeezed preferred)
  • 2 oz Orange Juice (Freshly squeezed preferred)
  • 0.75 oz Lime Juice
  • 0.5 oz Grenadine
  • 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Pineapple wedge, for garnish
  • Orange slice, for garnish
  • Maraschino cherry, for garnish (optional)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Chill Your Glass: Chill a highball glass by filling it with ice or placing it in the freezer for a few minutes.
  2. Combine the Juices: In a shaker, combine the pineapple juice, orange juice, and lime juice.
  3. Add the Gin and Bitters: Pour in the gin and add the Angostura bitters to the shaker.
  4. Shake Well: Fill the shaker with ice. Close it tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
  5. Strain into the Glass: Remove the ice from the chilled glass (if used). Fill the glass with fresh ice cubes. Strain the mixture from the shaker into the glass over the ice.
  6. Create the Sunrise Effect: Slowly pour the grenadine down the side of the glass. It will sink to the bottom, creating a gradient effect.
  7. Garnish: Garnish with a pineapple wedge, an orange slice, and a maraschino cherry (if using).
  8. Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use high-quality, fresh ingredients for the best flavor.
  • Adjust the sweetness by modifying the amount of grenadine.
  • Experiment with different gins to find your favorite flavor profile.
  • For a lighter drink, add a splash of soda water.
  • To make a mocktail, omit the gin and replace it with sparkling water or club soda.
  • For a spicy kick, add a thin slice of jalapeño to the shaker.
  • For a frozen treat, blend all the ingredients with a cup of ice until smooth.
  • Infuse your gin with tropical fruits like pineapple or mango for an extra layer of flavor.
  • Rim the glass with sugar or salt before pouring in the drink.
  • To make a batch, multiply the ingredients by the number of servings you need and mix them in a large pitcher. Add the grenadine just before serving to maintain the sunrise effect.
