Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large Granny Smith apples
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cans of refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Wash and peel the Granny Smith apples. Core and cut them into eighths.
- In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar, water, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
- Open the cans of crescent roll dough and separate them into triangles (16 total).
- Place an apple slice at the wide end of each triangle and roll the dough around the apple, starting from the wide end.
- Place each rolled dumpling seam-side down in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Stir in the brown sugar until well combined.
- Pour the butter and brown sugar mixture evenly over the dumplings in the baking dish.
- Carefully pour the prepared cinnamon syrup over the dumplings.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbling.
- Let cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm, drizzled with syrup, and optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- For best results, ensure the apple slices are not too thick to allow for even cooking.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheated in the microwave with a splash of water to keep them moist.
- These dumplings can also be frozen once completely cooled.
