Description

Enjoy the sweet and comforting taste of Apple Dumplings made with tart Granny Smith apples wrapped in buttery crescent roll dough and drizzled with a rich cinnamon syrup. This easy dessert is perfect for any occasion and is sure to please everyone!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cans of refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Wash and peel the Granny Smith apples. Core and cut them into eighths.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar, water, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  4. Open the cans of crescent roll dough and separate them into triangles (16 total).
  5. Place an apple slice at the wide end of each triangle and roll the dough around the apple, starting from the wide end.
  6. Place each rolled dumpling seam-side down in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Stir in the brown sugar until well combined.
  8. Pour the butter and brown sugar mixture evenly over the dumplings in the baking dish.
  9. Carefully pour the prepared cinnamon syrup over the dumplings.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbling.
  11. Let cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
  12. Serve warm, drizzled with syrup, and optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure the apple slices are not too thick to allow for even cooking.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheated in the microwave with a splash of water to keep them moist.
  • These dumplings can also be frozen once completely cooled.
