  • 1 cup brewed espresso or strong coffee
  • 1 cup milk (whole, skim, or your favorite non-dairy alternative)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (for dusting)
  • 1 tablespoon coffee liqueur (optional, for an adult twist)
  • 1 tablespoon mascarpone cheese
  • Whipped cream (for topping)
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Measure out your coffee beans (2 tablespoons of coffee grounds for every 6 ounces of water).
  2. Grind the coffee beans to a fine consistency.
  3. Brew your coffee using your preferred method (espresso machine, French press, or drip coffee maker).
  4. Set the brewed coffee aside to cool slightly.
  5. In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium-low heat until warm (do not boil).
  6. Froth the milk using a milk frother, whisk, or by shaking it in a jar with a lid.
  7. Optionally, add sugar and vanilla extract to the milk while heating.
  8. In a large mug, pour in the brewed coffee.
  9. If using, add coffee liqueur to the coffee.
  10. Slowly pour the frothed milk over the coffee, holding back the foam with a spoon.
  11. Gently stir to combine, keeping the foam on top.
  12. Dollop mascarpone cheese on top of the frothed milk or whisk it into the milk before pouring.
  13. Dust the top with cocoa powder using a fine mesh sieve.
  14. Sprinkle chocolate shavings on top if desired.
