- 1 cup brewed espresso or strong coffee
- 1 cup milk (whole, skim, or your favorite non-dairy alternative)
- 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (for dusting)
- 1 tablespoon coffee liqueur (optional, for an adult twist)
- 1 tablespoon mascarpone cheese
- Whipped cream (for topping)
- Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder (for garnish)
Instructions
- Measure out your coffee beans (2 tablespoons of coffee grounds for every 6 ounces of water).
- Grind the coffee beans to a fine consistency.
- Brew your coffee using your preferred method (espresso machine, French press, or drip coffee maker).
- Set the brewed coffee aside to cool slightly.
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium-low heat until warm (do not boil).
- Froth the milk using a milk frother, whisk, or by shaking it in a jar with a lid.
- Optionally, add sugar and vanilla extract to the milk while heating.
- In a large mug, pour in the brewed coffee.
- If using, add coffee liqueur to the coffee.
- Slowly pour the frothed milk over the coffee, holding back the foam with a spoon.
- Gently stir to combine, keeping the foam on top.
- Dollop mascarpone cheese on top of the frothed milk or whisk it into the milk before pouring.
- Dust the top with cocoa powder using a fine mesh sieve.
- Sprinkle chocolate shavings on top if desired.
- Top with a generous swirl of whipped cream.
- Drizzle chocolate syrup or sprinkle more cocoa powder for extra flair.
- Stir gently before enjoying.
