  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings 1x

Description

Sweet, spicy, and refreshing Jalapeno Watermelon Margarita – the perfect summer cocktail!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups cubed seedless watermelon, plus extra for garnish
  • 2 jalapenos, seeded and roughly chopped (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (about 46 limes)
  • 1/4 cup agave nectar (or simple syrup, adjust to taste)
  • 6 ounces tequila blanco (silver tequila)
  • 3 ounces orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • Ice
  • Lime wedges, for garnish
  • Salt or chili-lime seasoning for rimming the glasses (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a blender, combine the 6 cups of cubed watermelon and the 2 seeded and roughly chopped jalapenos.
  2. Blend until completely smooth.
  3. (Optional) Strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve to remove seeds and pulp.
  4. Taste and adjust the spice level by adding more jalapeno or watermelon juice as needed.
  5. In a pitcher, combine the watermelon-jalapeno puree, fresh lime juice, agave nectar (or simple syrup), tequila blanco, and orange liqueur.
  6. Stir well until all ingredients are combined and the agave nectar or simple syrup is fully dissolved.
  7. (Optional) Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  8. (Optional) Rim the glasses with salt or chili-lime seasoning.
  9. Fill each glass with ice.
  10. Pour the margarita mixture into the prepared glasses.
  11. Garnish with a watermelon wedge and a lime wedge.
  12. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Spice Level: Adjust the amount of jalapeno to your preference. Start with one and add more to taste.
  • Tequila: Tequila blanco is recommended, but reposado or añejo can be used for a richer flavor.
  • Sweetness: Adjust the amount of agave nectar or simple syrup to your liking, depending on the sweetness of the watermelon.
  • Mocktail: Omit the tequila and orange liqueur and replace them with sparkling water or club soda.
  • Frozen Margarita: Blend all ingredients with ice for a frozen version.
  • Make Ahead: The watermelon-jalapeno puree and the margarita mixture (without ice) can be made up to 24 hours in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
