  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

Cozy Spiced Rum Coffee: strong coffee, spiced rum, and coffee liqueur with a hint of sweetness, topped with whipped cream and spices. Perfect for chilly evenings or festive treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups freshly brewed strong coffee (dark roast preferred)
  • 2 ounces spiced rum (Captain Morgan or your favorite)
  • 1 ounce coffee liqueur (Kahlua)
  • 12 tablespoons brown sugar, or to taste
  • ¼ cup heavy cream, whipped (optional)
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon (for garnish)
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg (for garnish)
  • Star anise (for garnish, optional)
  • Orange zest (for garnish, optional)
  • Ice cubes (for iced version)

Instructions

  1. Brew a strong batch of coffee (about 1 ½ cups).
  2. Warm your mug with hot water, then empty.
  3. Pour coffee into the mug. Add spiced rum, coffee liqueur, and brown sugar.
  4. Stir well until the brown sugar is completely dissolved. Taste and adjust sweetness.
  5. Spoon whipped cream on top.
  6. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Add star anise and orange zest, if desired.
  7. Brew coffee and let it cool slightly (or chill in the refrigerator).
  8. In a cocktail shaker, combine cooled coffee, spiced rum, coffee liqueur, and brown sugar.
  9. Fill the shaker with ice cubes.
  10. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
  11. Strain into a glass filled with ice.
  12. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg, and a slice of orange or a star anise, if desired.

Notes

  • Use good quality, freshly ground coffee for the best flavor.
  • Adjust the brown sugar to your preference.
  • Experiment with cloves, ginger, or cardamom.
  • Try dark or aged rum.
  • Omit rum and liqueur; add rum extract or non-alcoholic coffee syrup.
  • Get creative with chocolate shavings, coffee beans, or a cinnamon stick.
  • Multiply ingredients for a party and keep warm in a slow cooker.
  • Perfect with chocolate cake, brownies, or cookies.
  • Adjust coffee roast or amount to taste.
  • Don’t overdo the alcohol to maintain flavor balance.
