  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Description

a post-workout treat. Rich and creamy, it’s made with almond milk, cocoa powder, and your choice of protein powder, offering a delicious and nutritious way to warm up on chilly days. Adjust the sweetness to your liking and enjoy with optional toppings like whipped cream or marshmallows for an extra indulgent experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk (or any milk of your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 scoop of your favorite protein powder (chocolate or vanilla works best)
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (or honey, to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate shavings, or a sprinkle of cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Start by gathering all your ingredients. It’s always easier to have everything in one place before you begin cooking.
  2. In a medium saucepan, pour in the 2 cups of almond milk.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally to ensure even heating.
  4. While the milk is warming, take a small bowl and add the 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder.
  5. Add the scoop of protein powder to the bowl with the cocoa.
  6. Next, pour in the 2 tablespoons of maple syrup.
  7. Now, add the 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract and the 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt to the bowl.
  8. Using a whisk or a fork, mix all the dry ingredients and the syrup together until they form a smooth paste.
  9. Once the almond milk is warm (but not boiling), carefully pour the cocoa and protein mixture into the saucepan.
  10. Using a whisk, stir the mixture continuously as it heats until everything is well combined and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.
  11. Once the hot chocolate is steaming and all the ingredients are well incorporated, remove the saucepan from the heat.
  12. Now it’s time to serve! Grab your favorite mugs and pour the hot chocolate into each one.
  13. If you want to make it extra special, top your hot chocolate with whipped cream.
  14. For an added touch, sprinkle some chocolate shavings or a dash of cinnamon on top of the whipped cream.
  15. Serve immediately while it’s still warm.
