Passion Fruit Lemonade: A Refreshing Summer Recipe

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 servings 1x

Description

A refreshing blend of tart lemons and exotic passion fruit creates this delightful tropical lemonade.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 ripe passion fruits
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 68 lemons, depending on size)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 6 cups cold water, plus more for adjusting sweetness
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • Lemon slices and passion fruit pulp, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Passion Fruit Pulp: Cut each passion fruit in half. Scoop out the pulp into a fine-mesh sieve over a bowl. Strain the pulp, pressing with the back of a spoon to extract juice (optional, if you prefer seedless). Set aside.
  2. Make Lemonade Base: Squeeze lemons to get 1 cup of juice.
  3. (Optional Simple Syrup): Combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a saucepan. Heat until sugar dissolves. Cool slightly.
  4. Combine: In a pitcher, mix lemon juice, sugar (or simple syrup), and 6 cups cold water. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  5. Adjust Sweetness: Taste and add more sugar or water as needed.
  6. Add Passion Fruit: Pour passion fruit pulp into the lemonade. Stir gently.
  7. Chill: Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Serve: Fill glasses with ice. Pour lemonade over ice. Garnish with lemon slices and passion fruit pulp (optional).

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness to your preference.
  • For a smoother lemonade, strain the passion fruit pulp to remove seeds.
  • For a fizzy version, substitute some water with sparkling water just before serving.
  • Muddle mint leaves for a minty flavor.
  • Add grated ginger for a spicy kick.
  • Make popsicles by freezing the lemonade in molds.
  • Prepare the lemonade base ahead of time and add passion fruit pulp just before serving.
  • Use frozen passion fruit pulp if fresh is unavailable.
