Description

A vibrant and refreshing Mango Margarita made with fresh mango puree, tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice. Perfect for summer parties or a relaxing evening!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 oz tequila (blanco or silver)
  • 2 oz Cointreau (or other orange liqueur)
  • 1.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz agave nectar (or simple syrup, adjust to taste)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedges, for garnish
  • Coarse salt or sugar, for rimming (optional)
  • Mango slices, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mango Puree: Peel and cube the mangoes. Blend until completely smooth. Taste and adjust sweetness with agave nectar or simple syrup if needed.
  2. Prepare the Glass (Optional): If desired, rim a margarita glass with salt or sugar. Moisten the rim with a lime wedge and dip into salt or sugar.
  3. Combine Ingredients in a Shaker: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Add the mango puree, tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and agave nectar (or simple syrup) to the shaker.
  4. Shake Well: Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
  5. Strain into the Glass: Fill the prepared margarita glass with fresh ice cubes. Strain the margarita mixture into the glass.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with a lime wedge and mango slice (optional). Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Spice it up: Add a few slices of jalapeño to the shaker along with the other ingredients. Remove the seeds for less heat.
  • Frozen margarita: For a frozen mango margarita, combine all the ingredients in a blender with a cup or two of ice. Blend until smooth and frosty.
  • Different tequila: While blanco or silver tequila is traditionally used in margaritas, you can also use reposado tequila for a slightly more complex flavor.
  • Adjust sweetness: The sweetness of your mangoes will vary, so adjust the amount of agave nectar or simple syrup to taste. Start with less and add more as needed.
  • Non-alcoholic version: To make a non-alcoholic mango margarita, substitute the tequila with sparkling water or club soda. You can also use a non-alcoholic orange liqueur alternative.
  • Mango variety: Different varieties of mangoes will have slightly different flavors. Try using different types of mangoes to see which one you prefer. Some popular choices include Tommy Atkins, Haden, and Ataulfo mangoes.
  • Make it ahead: You can prepare the mango puree ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. This will save you time when you’re ready to make the margaritas.
  • Rim alternatives: Instead of salt or sugar, try rimming your glass with chili lime seasoning or Tajin for a spicy and tangy twist.
  • Infused tequila: For an extra layer of flavor, try using infused tequila. Jalapeño-infused tequila or pineapple-infused tequila would both be delicious in a mango margarita.
  • Coconut milk: For a creamier margarita, add a splash of coconut milk to the shaker.
