Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil.
- Add elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions (7-8 minutes) until al dente. Stir occasionally.
- Drain the macaroni in a colander and rinse briefly under cold water. Set aside.
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter without browning it.
- Sprinkle in the all-purpose flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes until smooth and bubbly.
- Gradually pour in the milk while whisking constantly until the mixture is smooth and thickens (about 5-7 minutes).
- Add garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, and salt and pepper to taste. Adjust seasoning as needed.
- Reduce heat to low and stir in the cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses until melted and creamy.
- Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir gently to combine.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- If baking, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Mix breadcrumbs with olive oil in a small bowl.
- Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy.
- Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
- Scoop into plates or bowls and garnish with fresh parsley or chives if desired.
