Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine the honey, soy sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Whisk until well blended.
- Taste the marinade and adjust seasoning if necessary. Add more honey for sweetness or soy sauce for saltiness as desired.
- Set aside about 1/4 cup of the marinade in a separate bowl for basting later.
- Place the chicken breasts in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the remaining marinade over the chicken, ensuring each piece is well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably 2 to 4 hours for best flavor.
- Remove the chicken from the refrigerator and let excess marinade drip off. Discard the used marinade.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
- Cook for 5-7 minutes on one side without moving to achieve a golden-brown crust.
- Flip the chicken and reduce heat to medium. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- While the chicken cooks, prepare the cornstarch slurry by mixing cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water until smooth.
- Once cooked, remove the chicken from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes.
- In the same skillet, pour in the reserved marinade and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Slowly add the cornstarch slurry, whisking continuously until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
- Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Slice the cooked chicken into strips or leave whole as preferred.
- Drizzle the thickened honey ginger sauce over the chicken, ensuring each piece is coated.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for added crunch and color.
- Serve over steamed rice or alongside stir-fried vegetables.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider serving with pickled vegetables or a fresh salad to balance the sweetness.
- For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes or sliced chili peppers to the marinade.
