  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This Honey Ginger Chicken features tender chicken breasts marinated in a sweet and savory honey-soy sauce with fresh ginger and garlic. Cooked to perfection and served with a thickened sauce, it’s a delicious dish that pairs well with rice or stir-fried vegetables, making it a favorite for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the honey, soy sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Whisk until well blended.
  2. Taste the marinade and adjust seasoning if necessary. Add more honey for sweetness or soy sauce for saltiness as desired.
  3. Set aside about 1/4 cup of the marinade in a separate bowl for basting later.
  4. Place the chicken breasts in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the remaining marinade over the chicken, ensuring each piece is well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably 2 to 4 hours for best flavor.
  6. Remove the chicken from the refrigerator and let excess marinade drip off. Discard the used marinade.
  7. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
  8. Cook for 5-7 minutes on one side without moving to achieve a golden-brown crust.
  9. Flip the chicken and reduce heat to medium. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  10. While the chicken cooks, prepare the cornstarch slurry by mixing cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water until smooth.
  11. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes.
  12. In the same skillet, pour in the reserved marinade and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  13. Slowly add the cornstarch slurry, whisking continuously until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
  14. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed.
  15. Slice the cooked chicken into strips or leave whole as preferred.
  16. Drizzle the thickened honey ginger sauce over the chicken, ensuring each piece is coated.
  17. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for added crunch and color.
  18. Serve over steamed rice or alongside stir-fried vegetables.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider serving with pickled vegetables or a fresh salad to balance the sweetness.
  • For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes or sliced chili peppers to the marinade.
