  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Enjoy a comforting and creamy Homemade Hamburger Helper Stroganoff made with ground beef or turkey, egg noodles, and a rich sauce. This quick weeknight dinner is perfect for the whole family, combining savory flavors and easy preparation for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups uncooked egg noodles
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the finely chopped onion. Sauté the onion for about 3-4 minutes, or until it becomes translucent and fragrant.
  2. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
  3. Next, add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet. Use a spatula to break it up into smaller pieces. Cook until the meat is browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if using beef.
  4. Once the meat is browned, stir in the Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to ensure the meat is evenly coated with the spices.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and milk, stirring to combine all the ingredients. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  6. Once the mixture is simmering, add the uncooked egg noodles directly into the skillet. Stir them in so they are submerged in the liquid.
  7. Cover the skillet with a lid and let it cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the mixture seems too thick, you can add a little more beef broth or milk to reach your desired consistency.
  8. After the noodles are cooked, remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the sour cream until it is fully incorporated.
  9. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding more salt or pepper as desired.
  10. To serve, spoon the stroganoff onto plates or into bowls. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley.

Notes

  • For added nutrition, consider adding sliced mushrooms, peas, or bell peppers when cooking the beef.
  • For a bit of heat, add red pepper flakes or hot sauce when building the flavor base.
  • You can substitute egg noodles with your favorite pasta shape, adjusting the cooking time as needed.
