Flavored Water Benefits: Hydration, Taste, and More

  • Total Time: 135 minutes
  • Yield: 1 gallon 1x

Description

Refreshing and healthy flavored water, infused with your favorite fruits and herbs. A delicious way to stay hydrated!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 gallon of filtered water
  • 1 cup of your favorite fruit, chopped (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, watermelon, oranges, lemons, limes – mix and match!)
  • 1/2 cup of fresh herbs (mint, basil, rosemary, lavender – use sparingly, especially rosemary and lavender)
  • Optional: 1/4 cup of sliced cucumber
  • Optional: 1-2 tablespoons of honey, agave, or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • Optional: A pinch of sea salt (enhances flavors)
  • Ice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash all fruits, herbs, and vegetables. Chop the fruit into small to medium-sized pieces. For citrus fruits, you can either slice them or squeeze a little juice into the water along with the slices. Gently bruise the herbs by lightly crushing them in your hands.
  2. Add the chopped fruit, herbs, and cucumber (if using) to the container. If you’re using honey, agave, or maple syrup, add it now.
  3. Pour the filtered water over the fruit and herbs. Make sure everything is submerged.
  4. Give the mixture a gentle stir to combine the ingredients and help dissolve any sweetener you’ve added.
  5. Cover the pitcher or container and refrigerate it for at least 2-4 hours. The longer it infuses, the stronger the flavor will be.
  6. If you prefer a clear flavored water without any fruit pieces, you can strain the water through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth before serving.
  7. Fill glasses with ice and pour the flavored water over the ice. Garnish with a sprig of fresh herbs or a slice of fruit, if desired.

Notes

  • Use high-quality filtered water for the best flavor.
  • Don’t over-infuse citrus peels, as they can become bitter. Remove them after a few hours.
  • Experiment with different fruit and herb combinations to find your favorites.
  • Adjust the sweetness to your liking.
  • Frozen fruit works just as well as fresh fruit.
  • Refill the pitcher with more water after the first batch for a second (or third) infusion. The flavor will be less intense with each refill.
  • For a fizzy twist, use carbonated water or sparkling water instead of still water.
  • Store flavored water in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
