Description

This easy tuna salad is a flavorful and customizable dish perfect for a quick lunch or light dinner. Combining tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, crunchy vegetables, and optional hard-boiled egg, it offers a satisfying meal that can be served on leafy greens, bread, or crackers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans of tuna (5 oz each), drained
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 hard-boiled egg, chopped (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Leafy greens (for serving, optional)
  • Whole grain bread or crackers (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients in one place for easy access.
  2. Open the cans of tuna and drain them well. Transfer the drained tuna to a medium-sized mixing bowl.
  3. Add the mayonnaise to the bowl, starting with 1/4 cup. Adjust based on your desired creaminess.
  4. Stir in the Dijon mustard, mixing until well combined.
  5. Finely chop the celery and red onion, then add them to the bowl for crunch and flavor.
  6. Mix in the sweet pickle relish. If preferred, substitute with dill relish for a different taste.
  7. Squeeze in the lemon juice and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. If using, chop the hard-boiled egg and gently fold it into the mixture.
  9. Stir everything together using a spatula to combine without breaking up the tuna too much.
  10. Chill the tuna salad in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  11. Prepare your serving options, such as leafy greens, whole grain bread, or crackers.
  12. After chilling, give the salad a quick stir and taste for seasoning adjustments.
  13. Serve the tuna salad on greens, bread, or crackers, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute some mayonnaise with Greek yogurt.
  • Feel free to customize the salad with additional ingredients like diced bell peppers or capers.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
