Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups water or milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 tablespoon chai tea leaves or 1 chai tea bag
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee or 1 shot of espresso
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup milk (for creaminess, optional)
  • Chopped nuts or seeds for topping (optional)
  • Fresh fruit or dried fruit for topping (optional)
  • Whipped cream (optional, for a decadent touch)

Instructions

  1. Start by boiling 2 cups of water or milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Once the liquid is boiling, add the chai tea leaves or the chai tea bag.
  3. Let the chai steep for about 5 minutes.
  4. After steeping, remove the tea leaves or tea bag and set the chai-infused liquid aside.
  5. In the same saucepan, add the rolled oats to the chai-infused liquid. Stir well to combine.
  6. Bring the mixture back to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low.
  7. Add a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors.
  8. Cook the oats for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they absorb the liquid and become creamy.
  9. While the oats are cooking, prepare your coffee.
  10. Once the oats have reached your desired consistency, stir in the instant coffee or espresso.
  11. Add the brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, and ground cardamom. Stir until well combined.
  12. For extra creaminess, stir in 1/4 cup of milk.
  13. Remove the saucepan from heat and spoon the oatmeal into bowls.
  14. Add your favorite toppings: chopped nuts or seeds, fresh fruit, dried fruit, or whipped cream.
  15. Serve warm and enjoy as a hearty breakfast or cozy snack.
