Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1 bell pepper (red or green), sliced
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 1 cup snap peas
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional, for heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked rice or noodles, for serving
- Chopped green onions and sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Slice the beef sirloin against the grain into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick. In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for 15-20 minutes.
- While the beef marinates, wash and slice the onion, bell pepper, and broccoli. Trim the ends of the snap peas. Mince the garlic and ginger.
- Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Sear for 2-3 minutes without stirring, then stir occasionally for another 2-3 minutes until cooked through. Remove the beef and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add more oil if needed and toss in the sliced onion. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and ginger, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the bell pepper, broccoli, and snap peas, stir-frying for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp.
- Return the beef to the skillet. Sprinkle with ground cumin and chili flakes (if using). Stir to combine. Pour in the remaining 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, stir-frying for another 1-2 minutes. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
- Remove from heat and serve the stir fry over cooked rice or noodles. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
- Slice the beef thinly and against the grain for the best texture.
- Avoid overcrowding the pan when cooking the beef; cook in batches if necessary.
- Customize the vegetables based on your preferences or what you have on hand.
- For added sweetness, consider adding a teaspoon of sugar or a splash of hoisin sauce.
