This Cumin Beef Stir Fry is a quick and delicious meal featuring tender beef sirloin and colorful vegetables, all tossed in a savory sauce. Ideal for busy weeknights, it can be easily customized and is best served over rice or noodles for a satisfying dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 bell pepper (red or green), sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup snap peas
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice or noodles, for serving
  • Chopped green onions and sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef sirloin against the grain into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick. In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for 15-20 minutes.
  2. While the beef marinates, wash and slice the onion, bell pepper, and broccoli. Trim the ends of the snap peas. Mince the garlic and ginger.
  3. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Sear for 2-3 minutes without stirring, then stir occasionally for another 2-3 minutes until cooked through. Remove the beef and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add more oil if needed and toss in the sliced onion. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and ginger, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the bell pepper, broccoli, and snap peas, stir-frying for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet. Sprinkle with ground cumin and chili flakes (if using). Stir to combine. Pour in the remaining 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, stir-frying for another 1-2 minutes. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  6. Remove from heat and serve the stir fry over cooked rice or noodles. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • Slice the beef thinly and against the grain for the best texture.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pan when cooking the beef; cook in batches if necessary.
  • Customize the vegetables based on your preferences or what you have on hand.
  • For added sweetness, consider adding a teaspoon of sugar or a splash of hoisin sauce.
