Crispy fried chicken thighs tossed in a delectable honey garlic sauce, offering a perfect blend of sweet and savory flavors for a delightful meal or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the chicken thighs into bite-sized pieces (about 1 to 1.5 inches).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the chicken pieces with buttermilk. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours.
  3. In another bowl, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and baking powder.
  4. In a small bowl, beat the egg until well mixed.
  5. Remove chicken from buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dip into the beaten egg, then coat thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture.
  6. Place coated chicken pieces on a wire rack or plate and let them rest for about 10 minutes.
  7. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom by about 1 inch to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Add chicken pieces in batches, frying for 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/75°C).
  9. Remove chicken from oil and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  10. In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and rice vinegar. Stir well.
  11. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, cooking for about 3-4 minutes.
  12. Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Slowly pour into the simmering sauce while stirring. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until thickened. Add sesame oil if desired.
  13. In a large mixing bowl, add the crispy fried chicken pieces and pour the honey garlic sauce over. Toss gently to coat.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, double-dip the chicken in the egg and flour mixture.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the sauce by adding more or less honey according to your taste.
