Copycat Caramel Macchiato: How to Make This Delicious Drink at Home

  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

Enjoy a homemade Caramel Macchiato, a delightful blend of espresso or strong coffee, frothed milk, vanilla syrup, and a rich caramel drizzle. Perfect for coffee lovers, this creamy treat can be served hot or iced for a refreshing experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of milk (whole, skim, or your favorite non-dairy alternative)
  • 1 shot of espresso (or 1/2 cup of strong brewed coffee)
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla syrup
  • 1 tablespoon of caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
  • Ice cubes (if serving iced)

Instructions

  1. Start by grinding your coffee beans if you’re using whole beans. Aim for a fine grind for espresso or a medium grind for brewed coffee.
  2. For espresso, use about 18-20 grams of coffee for a double shot. If you’re brewing coffee, use about 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds for every 6 ounces of water.
  3. Prepare your espresso machine according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If you’re brewing coffee, use your preferred method (drip, French press, etc.).
  4. Once brewed, set the espresso or coffee aside to cool slightly while we prepare the milk.
  5. Pour 1 cup of milk into a small saucepan. If you’re making an iced version, you can skip the heating step and just froth the milk cold.
  6. Heat the milk over medium heat until it’s warm but not boiling. You want it to be steaming, but not bubbling.
  7. If you have a milk frother, this is the time to use it! Froth the milk until it’s light and airy. If you don’t have a frother, you can whisk it vigorously by hand or shake it in a jar with a lid until frothy.
  8. Once frothed, set the milk aside. If you’re making an iced drink, pour the frothed milk over ice in a tall glass.
  9. In a large mug or glass, add 1 tablespoon of vanilla syrup.
  10. Pour the shot of espresso (or brewed coffee) over the vanilla syrup. If you’re making an iced drink, pour the espresso over the ice first.
  11. Next, gently pour the frothed milk over the espresso. If you’re making an iced drink, pour the milk slowly to create layers.
  12. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of caramel sauce over the top of the frothed milk. You can be generous here; it’s all about that sweet caramel goodness!
  13. If you like your drink a bit sweeter, feel free to add a teaspoon of sugar at this point and stir gently to combine.
  14. For an extra touch of flavor, sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon or nutmeg on top of the caramel drizzle.
  15. Give the drink a gentle stir if you prefer a more blended flavor, or leave it layered for a beautiful presentation.
  16. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade caramel macchiato! If you made an iced version, grab a straw and sip away.

Notes
