  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 24 pieces 1x

Description

Enjoy these Churro Donut Bites, a delightful blend of crispy churros and soft donuts, coated in cinnamon sugar. Perfect for sharing, these bite-sized treats are ideal for any occasion and can be paired with chocolate sauce for an extra indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • Chocolate sauce (for dipping, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, sugar, and salt. Place it over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to help the butter melt completely.
  2. Once boiling, remove from heat and immediately add the flour and baking powder. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough forms a ball, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Allow the dough to cool for about 5 minutes to prevent the eggs from cooking when added.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy. Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  5. In a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pot, pour enough vegetable oil to fill it about 2 inches deep. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Test the oil by dropping a small piece of dough into it; if it sizzles and rises, it’s ready.
  6. Prepare a plate lined with paper towels to drain the churro donut bites after frying.
  7. Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip or use a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off.
  8. Pipe small rounds of dough (about 1 inch in diameter) directly into the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary. Fry each batch for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
  9. Using a slotted spoon, remove the churro bites from the oil and place them on the prepared paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  10. In a shallow bowl, combine the 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Mix well.
  11. While warm, roll the churro donut bites in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
  12. Arrange the coated churro donut bites on a serving platter. Drizzle with chocolate sauce if desired.
  13. Serve warm and enjoy with friends and family!

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven to regain crispiness.
  • For longer storage, freeze uncoated churro donut bites and fry them straight from the freezer.
