Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (for topping)
  • 1/4 cup mustard (for topping)
  • Pickles, sliced (for garnish)
  • Lettuce, shredded (for garnish)
  • Tomato, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula (5-7 minutes).
  2. Drain excess fat carefully.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic; cook for another 3-4 minutes until onion is translucent.
  4. Season with salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well and cook for an additional minute. Remove from heat.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together milk and eggs until blended.
  6. In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and mustard powder (if using).
  7. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. The batter should be smooth and slightly thick.
  8. Fold in shredded cheddar cheese.
  9. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  10. Grease a 9-inch pie dish.
  11. Spread the beef mixture evenly across the bottom of the pie dish.
  12. Pour the batter over the beef mixture, ensuring it covers everything evenly.
  13. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  14. Let cool for about 10 minutes before slicing.
  15. Slice into wedges (aim for 8 slices).
  16. Drizzle ketchup and mustard over each slice or serve on the side. Garnish with sliced pickles, shredded lettuce, and tomato slices.
