Cantaloupe Slushie: The Ultimate Refreshing Summer Drink

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Description

A refreshing and hydrating cantaloupe slushie, perfect for hot days. Made with chilled cantaloupe, lime juice, and a touch of honey, this easy-to-make drink is a healthy and delicious treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups cubed cantaloupe, chilled
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 2 tablespoons honey (or agave nectar for vegan option), adjust to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger, freshly grated (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Ice cubes (about 1-2 cups, depending on desired consistency)
  • Lime wedges, for garnish (optional)
  • Mint sprigs, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cantaloupe: Ensure cantaloupe is chilled. For extra frostiness, freeze cubed cantaloupe for 30 minutes.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add chilled cantaloupe, water, lime juice, honey (or agave), ginger (if using), and salt to a blender.
  3. Blend Until Smooth: Blend on low, gradually increasing speed until smooth. Add water (1-2 tablespoons at a time) if too thick.
  4. Add Ice: With blender running on low, gradually add ice cubes until desired slushie consistency is reached. Add more water or lime juice if too thick.
  5. Taste and Adjust: Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more honey (or agave) or lime juice.
  6. Serve Immediately: Pour into glasses and garnish with lime wedges and mint sprigs (optional). Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Make it Boozy: Add a shot of rum, vodka, or tequila.
  • Add Other Fruits: Experiment with mango, pineapple, or strawberries.
  • Use Frozen Cantaloupe: For a thicker slushie, freeze cantaloupe cubes completely.
  • Spice it Up: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a small piece of jalapeño.
  • Make it Creamy: Add coconut milk or Greek yogurt.
  • Sweetness Alternatives: Use maple syrup, simple syrup, or stevia.
  • Ginger Alternatives: Use ground ginger.
  • Lime Juice Substitute: Use bottled lime juice.
  • Make it Ahead: Prepare the cantaloupe mixture (without ice) and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
  • Garnish Ideas: Use edible flowers, shredded coconut, or a drizzle of honey.
