- Combine Ingredients: Pour bourbon, cooled espresso, simple syrup, Angostura bitters, and orange bitters over the ice.
- Stir Well: Gently stir the mixture for 20-30 seconds to chill and combine the flavors.
- Express Orange Peel: Express the oils from the orange peel over the glass by gently squeezing it.

- Garnish: Garnish with the expressed orange peel and coffee beans (optional).
- Serve and Enjoy: Sip and savor the flavors.
Notes
- Bourbon Selection: High-rye bourbon is recommended, but experiment with different types. Wheated bourbon will offer a smoother, sweeter flavor.
- Espresso Strength: Adjust the amount of espresso to your preference.
- Simple Syrup Adjustment: Adjust the amount of simple syrup to taste.
- Bitters Experimentation: Experiment with other types of bitters to add different layers of flavor.
- Coffee Liqueur: For an even more intense coffee flavor, you can add a splash of coffee liqueur.
- Smoked Old Fashioned: For a smoky twist, you can smoke the glass before adding the ingredients.
- Spiced Old Fashioned: Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the drink for a warm, spiced flavor.
- Orange Variation: Instead of just expressing the orange peel, you can muddle a small piece of orange in the glass before adding the other ingredients.
- Ice Considerations: The type of ice you use can also affect the drink. Clear ice, which is made using a directional freezing method, melts slower than regular ice and will keep your drink colder for longer without diluting it as much.
