  • Total Time: 270 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings 1x

Description

This Air Fryer Char Siu Pork features tender, marinated pork shoulder or belly cooked to perfection, coated in a sweet and savory glaze. With aromatic spices and a quick air fryer method, it’s a flavorful dish that pairs well with rice or in bao buns. Perfect for any meal!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds pork shoulder or pork belly, cut into 1-inch thick strips
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons Chinese rice wine (or dry sherry)
  • 1 tablespoon five-spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring (optional, for color)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, and Chinese rice wine. Whisk them together until well blended.
  2. Add the five-spice powder, minced garlic, minced ginger, and red food coloring (if using) to the bowl. Mix everything until the marinade is smooth and all the ingredients are well incorporated.
  3. Place the pork strips in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish.
  4. Pour the marinade over the pork, ensuring that each piece is well coated. If using a bag, seal it tightly and massage the marinade into the pork. If using a dish, cover it with plastic wrap.
  5. Refrigerate the marinated pork for at least 4 hours, but ideally overnight.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). This usually takes about 5 minutes.
  7. Once preheated, lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  8. Remove the pork from the marinade, allowing any excess marinade to drip off. Discard the leftover marinade.
  9. Place the pork strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
  10. Cook the pork for 15 minutes, flipping the strips halfway through the cooking time.
  11. Check the internal temperature of the pork; it should reach at least 145°F (63°C). If not, continue cooking in 2-minute increments until done.
  12. Once cooked, remove the pork from the air fryer and let it rest for about 5 minutes.
  13. While the pork is resting, prepare a quick glaze using the leftover marinade. In a small saucepan, bring the marinade to a boil over medium heat.
  14. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes, or until it thickens slightly.
  15. After the glaze has thickened, remove it from the heat and brush it over the rested pork strips.
  16. Slice the pork into bite-sized pieces or serve the strips whole.
  17. Arrange the pork on a serving platter and drizzle any remaining glaze over the top.
  18. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Notes

  • For best results, marinate the pork overnight to enhance the flavor.
  • Adjust the cooking time based on the thickness of the pork strips and the air fryer model.
  • Serve with steamed rice or in a bao bun for a complete meal.
